Henna Body Art by ashlyn memon valerie churns and caleb june

Mrs. Williams second grade classes are learning about the art and culture of India called henna.

Henna is used for special occasions such as weddings, religious ceremonies, and holidays.
Making henna involves lines and other patterns.Did you know that egyptions used henna on their feet so they don't burn their feet while walking on hot sand?  They do this because henna cools your blood so that help keep the sand under their feet cool.

In India they celebrate the elephant because they represent wisdom, honor, strength, and stability. Photos coming soon!

The MHS blood drive took place on November 8. The blood drive was from 1:00 to 7:00. Many people came and donated blood.  Here is a fun fact about blood. There are 8 types of blood. The blood types are A positive, A negative, B positive, B negative, AB positive, AB negative, O positive, O negative. If you are O positive and O negative you can give blood to anyone. She told us that "they worked in teams , 4 or 5 people."  They had to estimate the number of seeds , they had a raffle to see who would take the pumpkin seeds and they carved the pumpkins.  They created spooky Jack O' Lanterns. They had a lot of fun and did a great job!

The third graders in Mrs. Williams' art class are celebrating El Dia De Los Muertos which is also called the Day of the Dead! This Mexican holiday takes place on November 1st and 2nd. This holiday is meant to celebrate family members, relatives, friends, and other people who have passed away. The positions students are running for are: President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, and PR Officer. Multiple students will run and the winners will be revealed in November along with the future president of the U.S. Once you meet the candidates be ready to listen and pick a side!
